There are many benefits to adding a skylight to your home. There are the health benefits that come from breathing fresher air and enjoying more daylight, as well as the aesthetic benefits of the gorgeous architectural feature and the illumination it provides in your space.

One of the perfect times to install a skylight is when you’re already doing a home renovation. Patrick Snow, a VELUX Certified Installer and owner of Snow’s Construction, explains:

“The best advice I would give to homeowners thinking about doing a renovation is to think about the skylight beforehand, because it’s so much easier to get the framing down when all the drywall is out of the way. This way, you can save a lot of steps. But if you’re using the proper people, it’s a relatively easy task.”

If you’re thinking of adding a skylight, it’s important to incorporate it during the planning stages, as this will save you time and money. It would be much more expensive for you to renovate now and then in a year or two add a skylight, as you’d have to pay a contractor to come back in.

If you’re planning on adding a skylight, you want to consider speaking with a member if our VELUX installers program.

“The benefits of using a certified VELUX installer is that they have been trained by VELUX,” explains Arethea Harris, national marketing manager at VELUX Canada Inc. “They have all of the necessary coverage, and it gives homeowners peace of mind knowing that their installation is going to be done right.”

Snow agrees, saying there are many more benefits and protections when you choose a certified installer. He says if you’re not using somebody who is certified, you don’t know if you’re covered against any issues like leaks or if the job will be done right. Plus, you’ll know your skylight warranty is protected since certified installers know the proper installation techniques.

“I became a certified installer because they support you technically with great service” Snow explains. “VELUX backs the product up really well, too. They have a great warranty, they don’t leak, and at the end of the day my client is going to be happy.”
