Whether it’s a recent addition or was always a key part of your home, you want to make the most of your skylight. One way to do that is by adding some shades, which allow you to have complete control over your environment and can enhance the versatility and functionality of your skylight. Here we detail our different options so you can decide which one is right for you:

Room-darkening shades. These powerful shades can convert day into night, blocking even the brightest sunlight, and making them the ideal choice for the rooms in your home that require room darkening, like your bedroom. Available with solar-powered functionality, our room-darkening (double pleated) shades feature a sleek design and blackout cloth with a honeycomb structure that is energy efficient. They also come in a wide variety of colours, from peach to charcoal to complement your room’s d é cor.

If your skylights are easy to access and you’re hoping for DIY installation, then consider the solar shades. They’re powered by a battery, which is charged by the sun and that means they do not require wiring during installation. Enjoy easy installation with the VELUX Pick & Click! system. VELUX skylights are fitted with pre-installed brackets to ease installation and help you achieve a perfect fit every time.

Light-filtering shades. Direct sunlight is no longer an issue with the light-filtering skylight shade. Soft, diffused light is all that will enter your room. It’s perfect for glare-free TV-watching in the living room or anywhere you don’t want overpowering sunlight. The shade comes with a keypad for simple operation. If you’re hoping for versatility and perfect matching to your décor, our light-filtering shades also offer the most colour options, including snowy white and delightful blue. They also provide privacy from neighbours or passers-by without blocking out the light.

VELUX Active. Upgrading your shades to include VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO lets you stay in control of your skylights and your indoor climate. Simply use the VELUX ACTIVE app to operate your VELUX skylights and shades from anywhere using your smartphone. Smart sensors continuously monitor the temperature, humidity and CO2 levels in your home and open or close your skylights and shades to create a healthier indoor climate. ACTIVE will also proactively read external weather networks and close your skylight in advance of a hot day to keep your indoor climate comfortable and healthy. The VELUX ACTIVE system is compatible with both our solar-powered shades and solar- or electric-powered skylights.
