Bathroom renovations top the list of home improvements

Bathroom makeovers were the most desired project in Canada in 2016, according to a recent study. From luxurious double showers to deluxe power rooms, we’re spending an average of $8,000 to renovate this space. Upgrading fixtures, appliances and new tiling are core essentials for a deluxe bathroom, but how can you transform this space into your own home spa? The trend that most designers are moving towards is a skylight, a surprisingly affordable addition to any renovation project.

Here are some reasons why skylights are looking very bright at the top of the list:

  • Infuse with natural light.

Skylights bring in two times more daylight than a typical window, adding more sun beams right where you need them. Positioning one above the vanity will help you apply your make-up with a perfect touch, as natural light is the best lighting for this daily task.

  • Improved health.

Your body stays on its natural clock and sleep rhythm with better access to daylight. Exposing yourself to it right as you start the day can help you effortlessly increase your well-being and get a better night’s rest.

  • Enjoy your privacy.

Bathroom windows that face the street or neighbours are probably covered with shades most of the time. But an overhead skylight gives you much-needed privacy and an unobstructed view.

  • Better air flow.

The combination of daylight and fresh air makes for a good indoor climate that’s essential for optimal health. A VELUX programmable skylight allows you to let the steam out after a hot bath or shower to create a healthier living environment for you and your family, and decreases the chance of bathroom condensation.

  • Affordable alternatives.

If you’re on the fence about a skylight, another option for more natural light is a sun tunnel, which is really cost effective and unobtrusive. It takes four hours on average to install and requires no structural changes to the home.
